ABOUT

What makes a good Plastic Surgeon?

by Dr Taliah Schmitt

One might say it’s experience. That’s not enough. Most board certified plastic surgeons have a wide experience, worked on thousands of cases, and yet not all of them are what you would consider a good plastic surgeon.
Besides theoretical education and surgical skills, the one factor that makes all the difference is the listening skills. Your surgeon needs to understand perfectly your vision, take all the time needed to listen to you, work with you and accompany you along the way to make your vision a reality. That also means, he will have to tell you if your goal cannot be reached, and the reasons for it.
Plastic surgery is at the meeting point of science and art, there is no “one fit for all” procedure. Each patient is unique, and that’s how you should be considered by your surgeon.

Why am I the right Plastic Surgeon for you?

A relation based on mutual trust between the patient and the surgeon is the key to a successful outcome in plastic surgery. I pride myself in spending a lot of time listening to my patients, explaining every step of the way to them in order to achieve their goal.
I only want to get you the best results possible, and for that reason, I will put all my knowledge, surgical expertise, and a touch of art to bring your vision to reality.
If your demand is unrealistic, I will explain to you the reasons why I refuse to perform the surgery you’re asking for.
You took the step to come see me, I will make it worth your time and money, by spending as much time with you as needed, giving you all the details you ask for and plan together with you a unique procedure that will match all your expectations.

“Une relation de confiance entre un chirurgien et son patient est pour moi la clĂ© du succĂšs d’une intervention de chirurgie esthĂ©tique.”

Dr. Taliah Schmitt: Biography

Since my childhood, I have always been fascinated with Plastic and reconstructive surgery.

After entering Paris VI Med School at the age of 16, I spent 6 years studying medicine in both France and the US (Tulane University Medical School, New Orleans). I then successfully passed the French National Medical School examination with a high ranking allowing to pursue my career as a Plastic Surgery resident in Paris.
I then completed a 5 years residency program in various hospitals in Paris, allowing me to learn all aspects of the Plastic and Reconstructive specialty.

With my French background in the specialty, I then decided to widen my knowledge by getting accepted in one of the most prestigious university in the US: Stanford University for a one-year fellowship in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery department whilst preparing a Master’s degree in Surgical Sciences. The extensive work I have done there on Tissue Engineering led to multiple awards such as the Joseph Boyes award from ASSH, and awards both the French Academy of Medicine and the French Academy of Surgery. I also published many papers in international journals such as Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (PRS) or Clinics in Plastic Surgery.

What follows was a two-years Clinical fellowship at Saint Joseph hospital in Paris, specializing in face and breast cosmetic surgery as well as post massive weight loss procedures.

I finally opened my private practice near TrocadĂ©ro in Paris, whilst still working weekly for the public system at Saint Joseph’s Hospital.
